SEVENTH INNING
SCORE: Indiana 5, Kentucky 3
TOP HALF: Jackson struck out for the first out. Kelsey grounded out to the third baseman for the second out. Owen Lee, making his first at-bat of the night in place of Cloud, struck out swinging.
BOTTOM HALF:
SIXTH INNING
SCORE: Indiana 5, Kentucky 3
TOP HALF: Brown hit a hard liner to first base for the first out. Hindle and Van Cleave struck out for the final two outs.
BOTTOM HALF: Logan Sorrel is in for the sixth inning. Sorrel, up to 93 mph with the fastball, walked the first hitter after working the count full. He fell behind and walked the second batter as well to put runners on first and second. That drew a mound visit from pitching coach Dan Roszel. Sorrel responded with a strikeout for the first out. A fly out to center field put runners on the corners with two outs. The Cats should've been out of the inning, but Ellis' throw from third base couldn't be dug out by Brown at first. That led to a run. The final out of the inning comes on a fly out to left field.
There were also some defensive changes in the sixth. Lee Ellis moved to third, Peltier to shortstop, Hindle to second and freshman Kaden Powell to right field.
FIFTH INNING
SCORE: Indiana 4, Kentucky 3
TOP HALF: Peltier led off the inning and worked a good at-bat, but lined out to the first baseman for the first out. Tharnish is human as he flies out to center field for the second out. Ellis struck out to end the inning.
BOTTOM HALF: Junior left-hander Leighton Harris is on for the Cats in the fifth. Cole Decker led off the inning with a walk. He bounced back to strike out Cal Gates for the first out. Fry singled through the left side to put runners on first and second. Will Moore tried a bunt, but it was hit right back to Harris. But Harris tried to double off the runner at first base and threw the ball away, leading to a run. Harris struck out the batter to end the inning.
FOURTH INNING
SCORE: Kentucky 3, Indiana 3
TOP HALF: Van Cleave drew a leadoff walk and moved up to second on a groundout from Jackson. Another nice play at second by Fry to get to that one and throw him out at first. Kelsey struck out looking for the second out. Cloud hits one deep into the hole at shortstop, but he's called out on a bang-bang play.
BOTTOM HALF: Craig came back out for the fourth inning. The first out was on a groundout to Peltier at third base. Craig then punches out Hogan Denny, who doubled the last time up, for the second out. Owen ten Oever gets a two-out hit, which ends a streak of nine straight batters retired by Craig. That was followed by another single to put runners on first and second. Ryan Maggy, a West Virginia transfer, singles to tie it back up at 3. Craig struck out the final hitter he saw for the third out.
THIRD INNING
SCORE: Kentucky 3, Indiana 2
TOP HALF: Tharnish leads off the inning with his second homer, a long one over the scoreboard in left field. Ellis struck out for the first out. Brown tried to bunt against the shift, but the pitcher fielded it and threw him out for the second out. Hindle drew a walk for a two-out baserunner. He's thrown out trying to steal second to end the inning.
BOTTOM HALF: Craig is back for his third inning of work and opens the inning with a strikeout. The second out comes on a flyout to Kelsey in left field. The final out came on an infield popout to Hindle.
SECOND INNING
SCORE: Kentucky 2, Indiana 2
TOP HALF: After taking a hit away in the last inning, Kelsey gets robbed of a knock on a nice diving play by second baseman Landen Fry. Caeden Cloud drew a one-out walk, then JP Peltier hit a deep fly ball to right center field that was tracked down for the second out. Cloud was thrown out trying to steal second base during Tharnish's at-bat.
BOTTOM HALF: Craig opens the second inning with a flyout for the first out, then bounces back with a three-pitch strikeout, then gets another K for the third out.
FIRST INNING
SCORE: Kentucky 2, Indiana 2
TOP HALF: Jayce Tharnish opens the scrimmage with a solo homer to left field on the first pitch he sees. Lee Ellis is hit by a pitch to put a runner on first. Hudson Brown struck out swinging for the first out. Ellis stole second and third base to put a one-out runner in scoring position for Ethan Hindle, who hit a sac fly to make it 2-0. Braxton Van Cleave was hit by a pitch on a full count. Riley Jackson popped out in foul territory for the third out.
BOTTOM HALF: PJ Craig takes the mound for the Wildcats. He led off with a hit by pitch before getting a fly out to left field for the first out. Indiana's Hogan Denny hit a liner into the gap to score a run to make it 2-1. Craig threw a wild pitch to move the runner up to third. Alex Kelsey made a diving catch in left field to prevent another hit, but the runner tagged up to score to tie it. Craig got a strikeout to end the inning.
