Kentucky adds two-sport star Tyler Fryman. What can fans expect on the diamond?

Two-sport star Tyler Fryman committed to Kentucky on Friday, putting an end to a recruitment that for months had been widely speculated to play out this way. The Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, native will be on a football scholarship for the Wildcats, but he's expected to play baseball as well. He is rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 152 football prospect in the 2027 class by Rivals.com.

Fryman, who helped lead Beechwood High School to the KHSAA state tournament a few weeks ago, is also the top-ranked baseball player in the state by Prep Baseball Report and a top 100 player nationally.

Fryman had been committed to Louisville's baseball program since 2023, but he announced his decommitment on social media on Monday.

It's a big recruiting win for new football coach Will Stein, along with baseball coach Nick Mingione. Fryman is coming off an outstanding junior season in both sports. He caught 62 passes for 1,320 yards and 23 touchdowns, and also rushed for 283 yards and four scores. In baseball, Fryman led the state of Kentucky with 73 hits, hitting .514 with 15 doubles, nine triples, 12 home runs and 39 stolen bases. Beechwood defeated West Jessamine in the opening round of the KHSAA state tournament before falling to Kentucky commit Grayson Willoughby and eventual champion Trinity in the second round.

To learn more about Fryman as a baseball player, I spoke with Jordan Gates, the Midwest Crosschecker for Perfect Game. Gates is in his second stint with Perfect Game, and he also worked from 2023 to early 2026 as the Operations Director of the Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy.
