ASUN All-Freshman Team RHP Bryson Treichel transferring to Kentucky
Treichel struck out 74 batters his freshman season at UNF.
Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team righthanded pitcher Bryson Treichel is transferring to Kentucky, he told Bat Cats Central.
“I felt something different with all the (Kentucky) coaches,” Treichel said on Sunday evening. “The coaching staff was great. I had a vibe from them that I didn’t get from anyone else.”
Treichel, a native of DeLand, Florida, struck out 74 batters over 61.2 innings as a freshman with the Ospreys. In his college debut, Treichel tossed three shutout innings and struck out five batters against Notre Dame. He finished the year 4-5 with a 5.25 ERA over 14 starts.
His numbers tailed off in his final few outings, which left his ERA at 5.25. However, his ERA sat in the threes for most of the season and he consistently took the ball on the weekends for North Florida. He gave up just one earned run over six innings with 10 strikeouts against Jacksonville on March 15, and also struck out eight batters both games against West Georgia. His 74 strikeouts on the season tied for seventh most in the ASUN.
