Kentucky center fielder Jayce Tharnish is returning to Kentucky for his final season of college. The announcement was made during the MLB draft on Sunday.

Tharnish slashed 351./.412/.506 in 56 games in his first season with the Wildcats. He hit 13 doubles, three triples, six homers, 37 RBIs and recorded 32 steals. Prior to Kentucky, Tharnish played at St. Bonaventure for three seasons.

Entering the draft, Bat Cats Central sources expected Tharnish to be selected in the middle of the top 10 rounds. But after the sixth round was complete, Tharnish decided to return to Lexington for his second season.

It's a massive return announcement for the program as Kentucky returns its leader in average (.351), at-bats (239), hits (84) and tied for first in total bases (121). In addition, Tharnish is a good defensive center fielder with elite speed.

As of publication, Tyler Bell and Jaxon Jelkin have been selected from Kentucky's roster, along with class of 2026 commitment Jimmy Anderson. Anderson went in the fifth round to the Baltimore Orioles.

Outside of Tharnish, infielder Ethan Hindle was the other draft decision to watch from the current roster. Tharnish, Hindle, first baseman Hudson Brown, along with promising sophomores Braxton Van Cleave and Caeden Cloud, would provide a strong returning core to Kentucky's lineup.
