Kentucky has added five pitchers from the transfer portal this summer:

Cooper Corkrean (6-2, 5.49 ERA, four saves)

Corkrean is a portal transfer out of New Mexico who earned second-team All-Mountain West honors this past spring. And though his numbers look pedestrian in some ways, the southpaw finished the season as the Lobos’ closer and tied for their team lead in saves. The Mountain West is also extremely offensive; Corkrean had the seventh-best ERA in the conference last spring. He’s an athletic kid who stands 6-3 and 200 pounds and showcases a clean delivery and the ability to pitch out of the slide step. His fastball will climb into the low 90s and he’s got multiple breaking balls with a spread from the low-to-upper 70s. I’ve also seen Corkrean show some feel for a changeup that will climb into the 80s. Look for him to slot into a role similar to that of departing senior Jackson Soucie. The Texas native has vastly improved his walk rate as well, from over 10 (per 9 innings pitched) as a freshman at Galveston College, to just under 7 as a sophomore and a much more respectable 3.7/9 last spring at UNM.
