Winning ways
Winning games in multiple ways is essential for a successful team, and despite missing its 'two Tylers' for longer than they'd like, UK's offense has clicked into gear. The return of Tyler Bell from an opening day shoulder injury has certainly been a boost, and while the lineup is still waiting on Tyler Cerny's comeback before getting back to full strength, the Cats have put up double-digit runs in four of their last five games, with the one exception being an 8-4 win last Wednesday against EKU. Being able to outscore opponents when the opportunity arises is crucial. It’s also timely in this case, as it has eased up the pressure on the pitching staff, whose starters stumbled out of the block this past weekend: Jaxon Jelkin allowed five earned runs on Friday (bringing that season total to six), Ben Cleaver needed 71 pitches to labor through three innings Saturday, and Nate Harris was relieved in the second frame on Sunday after walking four of his 11 batters faced.

Strong middle
Of course, it was going to be tough replacing Bell after his aforementioned injury. That only got more difficult as the veteran Cerny (who played short in 83 of his 171 career starts at Indiana) went down shortly thereafter. But Caeden Cloud, Ethan Hindle and Luke Lawrence have held it together for the Bat Cats. All three are hitting above .300 with OPS numbers around .900 (1.150 in Hindle's case) and have answered the bell defensively as well. Kudos to Austin Cousino's recruiting, as getting and developing quality depth up the middle is extremely challenging.
