2024 review
Texas A&M enjoyed its best season in program history in 2024. It reached the College World Series for the second time in three seasons, only this time it rolled through its side of the bracket and reached the finals. The Aggies took Game 1 against Tennessee 9-5, putting them just one win from the school’s first national championship in baseball. But the Volunteers bounced back, taking the next two games to win the national title.
What happened next was one of the biggest college baseball stories in recent memory. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle, citing a strong relationship with athletic director Chris Del Conte from their time together at TCU from 2009-17, left Texas A&M for rival Texas just a day after the season ended. It was a wild 24 hours for Texas A&M as it nearly won its first national championship, but the head coach had one foot out the door.
