Recruiting notebook: UK commits square off in KHSAA state tournament, fast-rising prospects
A pair of Kentucky commits will meet in the KHSAA state baseball tournament next week.
A pair of Kentucky baseball commitments will square off at Kentucky Proud Park next week in the first round of the KHSAA 2025 baseball state tournament. Trinity, the favorite entering the field with a 34-3 record on the season, defeated St. Xavier 4-3 in the seventh region championship game earlier this week. It will face Meade County (third region champions) on June 5.
Grayson Willoughby, one of the top-ranked prospects for the Wildcats in the 2026 class, is a pitcher and an infielder for the Shamrocks. Willoughby has been one of the top risers in the 2026 class over the past few months. Since committing to Kentucky, he’s gone from an unranked prospect at Prep Baseball Report to the top 100. He’s currently ranked No. 86 nationally and the top player in Kentucky. For the season, Willoughby has pitched 31.2 innings and has 47 strikeouts, walked 13 batters and allowed 10 earned runs for a 2.21 earned run average. The sophomore class at Trinity has several expected Power-4 prospects, including standout pitcher Grayson Davis (No. 115 in the 2027 class in PBR), Max Phillips, Hudson Meredith and Jaxon Jett.
