On Tuesday, the University of Kentucky announced that athletic director Mitch Barnhart is retiring on June 30. Barnhart, the longest-serving athletic director in the Power-4, began his tenure at Kentucky in 2002.

In a press release, President Eli Capilouto said Barnhart is moving into a new role within the university.

"After thoughtful discussions, I am gratified that he has agreed to stay on and write another new and exciting chapter,” Capilouto said. “Mitch will be the first executive-in-residence of the UK Sport and Workforce Initiative.  This initiative will be part of a workforce effort that I mentioned in my remarks recently to the Board of Trustees and that I will be announcing more details about in the coming weeks."

Today's newsletter examines Barnhart's legacy regarding Kentucky baseball and how his retirement will affect the program moving forward.
