Bat Cats Insider: What I'm hearing around UK baseball as intrasquad scrimmages begin
A deep dive into where things stand with Kentucky baseball as intrasquad scrimmages begin.
Kentucky baseball's fall practice is rolling on. The Wildcats have a few upcoming intrasquad scrimmages and are just 12 days from traveling to Praso Park in Mason, Ohio, to scrimmage the Cincinnati Bearcats.
It seemed like a good time to connect with sources around the program to get a feel for how the fall has been going thus far. We'll know much more about the 2027 Kentucky baseball team in a few weeks – Kentucky plays four scrimmages against outside competition in a three-week span throughout October – but let's consider this a pre-scrimmage check-in.
Excellent Bat Cats Central contributor Adam Revelette was on hand Sept. 18 for a live pitching session, and I was in attendance on Sunday when a deeper group of pitchers threw. A few of those players will show up in this story, but I generally focused on players I haven't talked about yet.

Ethan Hindle showing more positional versatility
Let's start with senior infielder Ethan Hindle. After two years of showing flashes of what he could become, the Wisconsin native enjoyed a breakout junior season offensively in 2026. Hindle led the Wildcats with 19 doubles, 12 home runs and tied for the team lead with three triples. He also led the Wildcats in SEC play with a 134 wRC+ and was a perfect 16-for-16 on stolen base attempts on the season.
Hindle earned the opening day designated hitter role, but he became the second baseman by game two when Luke Lawrence moved to shortstop following Tyler Bell's injury on opening day. Hindle's defensive flexibility has played in his favor throughout his career and should be again this year. Last year, he made 36 starts at second base, four starts at first base, five starts at third base and 10 starts as the DH.
