2026 position previews: Catcher

Catcher is perhaps the biggest lingering question mark for the opening day lineup. It's first up in the Bat Cats Central preview series.

With Kentucky baseball's season opener less than 45 days away, Bat Cats Central is previewing position groups on the roster. First up is catcher.

The Wildcats will have a new regular behind the dish for the first time in a few years. Seasoned veteran Devin Burkes took over catching duties in the final month of the 2022 season and started 165 games over the past three seasons.

In addition, Kansas State transfer Raphael Pelletier exhausted his eligibility after one season in Lexington. Freshman catcher Nolan Belcher – who redshirted in 2025 – transferred to Kent State following the season. It's a brand new room for the Wildcats behind the plate in 2026.
